Ilya Khrzhanovskiy
(b. 1975, Moscow) is a Russian lm director, educated at the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), 1998. In 2004, his debut feature lm 4 earned him several awards including a Golden Cactus and Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Best Director at the Buenos Ai- res International Festival of Independent Cinema; Grand Jury Prize as Best New Director at the Seattle International Film Festival; Best Film and Best Camera at the Transylvania International Film Festival; the Best Director Prize at the Athens International Film Festival, and nominated for Fass- binder Prize European Film Award. 4 was included in o - cial programs of more than 50 international lm festivals, including Venice Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Los Angeles Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, and Tribeca Film Festival and distributed in the UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Scandi- navia and South Asia DAU is Khrzhanovsky’s second production and has been in the making since 2006. e DAU Rooms at the éâtre du Châtelet are devised by him as the seeds of DAU’s release in Paris.
