Synopsis
Once just a girl from the provinces, Nora is now married to a successful scientist and lives together with her family within the confines of a secret and privileged Moscow institute. Nora is visited by her mother for the first time since her wedding. Her mother closely observes the atmosphere within the couple's home, trying to work out whether her daughter is happy. During the course of their intimate conversations the complexity of their contradictory relationship is revealed.

My least favorite of the 5 DAU movies I've now seen, and did not seem like an Ilya Khrzhanovskiy film. It was like watching a play, one long, predictable, moody, estrogen-soaked conversation between mother and daughter. Overwrought and melodramatic, like a Chekhov play. It's fine if this was backstory for the characters, but didn't need to be its own film. I generally like the character of Nora, but her mother was oppressive and annoying, with beady eyes in a porcine face. I see now that mother-daughter dynamics, the good cop/bad cop, love/hate, emotional rollercoaster is universal.This chapter was very disappointing.

The film is similar to Bergman's "Moonlight Sonata", but it looks very lively, because we see no actors, but real people on the screen. An hour and a half fly by quickly and makes you think about relationship that you have got with parents

Amazingly good movie! I recommend to everyone who love Ingmar Bergman, particularly his opus "Autumn Sonata". I will watch all available DAU movies. Thank you very much for this website and opportunity to enjoy this monumental project with you!
